    Hello Dyescape people!

It is I, Perotin, back again with another suggestion...

This suggestion is pretty basic but can add to the immersive quality of Dyescape greatly. The idea is to create a standard for guild names so that they fit loosely with the lore of Dyescape. What I mean is that the guild name "FortniteGodZz" should not be allowed as a guild name because it would detract from the immersion and the roleplay element Dyescape wants.

What would be an appropriate name then? That's really up to the lore & content team to decide, my idea is anything that can resemble a real house-name (Stealing GOT names) like for example: Stark, Lannister, Tully, Targaryen etc. Here is a generator that can give more names that follow this theme.

Having this would add to the role-play dynamics and create a much more 'real' feeling to the game and not some arbitrary guild names that clearly do not fit with Dyescape's lore.

If the idea would be taken, you can implement it by forcing all guild names to be approved by a moderator/staff member before being used.
(And yes, I would change the USSR to something more roleplay-orientated)

As said previously in the discord channel for discussing this, I personally am neutral on this idea.

For the first point, I agree with what you have said. Having the quality of lore and name for a Guild should be a thing to match the atmosphere of the roleplay setting of Dyescape. Having something along the lines of "AnimeGods" or even some silly name would have a comedic effect in the end but would not trail to Dyescape's roleplay setting. However, I also hate the limiting factor of not choosing your Guild name the way you want, and especially in some cases as mentioned for the large criteria needing to met for server's lore, this could be out of extreme proportions. Maybe this could be worked on a little bit more to loosely fit with Dyescape as you mentioned?

The second point met is what I heavily disagree with. Nothing against games of thrones but an RPG should always be innovative and try not to take other things off others or any pop culture to match up to its prejudiced standard. And back to my point for having a generator, again I like but I hate the limiting factor of not being able to choose your guild name.

The third and final point I would heavily disagree on is having staff manually approve names. Although I am not a member of the Dyescape team at any point, things along the lines of manually approving names would be tiring and would demotivate the person fast for having the passion of RPG. Another thing that could occur is the staff's mistake of approving something like that which does not fit the criteria at all just to get a move on with other work.

    What I suggest:
Have a filter for guild names that don't come across as silly but not along the lines of anything arbitrary or bizarre, and even limit out pop culture references like popular games, movies, or franchises.

The GOT names was simply an example. I'm not suggesting we outright copy GOT in any way (I'd suggest the opposite), but the idea of naming your guild after your last-name is not exclusive to Game of Thrones (Mistborn is another series I can name off the top of my head that does this).

I'm guessing you mean generator instead of a filter, I would grudgingly agree with that but 1) We don't know how big of a problem moderating this would be. We should deal with the idea itself first rather than the implementation of the idea since we lack logistics/development knowledge that @MrDienns would have. If anything, you could delegate the approval of names to well-known members of the community. It would literally take seconds to say yes or no to a name, obviously, this could vary but it's all speculation because we don't know the logistics.

Voted against. Reason for this is because I feel like the restrictions will be a more negative impact than it is positive. As Jay said, it's good to prevent some names (containing banned words) for example, but I think limiting it to a generator or list of names would be too much of a restriction. Minecraft is still about freedom, we want to keep that going. Also note that we won't display the guild names everywhere unlike factions for example. The majority if guild names (especially unprofessional ones) probably won't be found by most players unless a guild gets super big.

I understand the suggestion, but since the names aren't displayed everywhere, it should be fine to allow people to come up with their own name. Ofcourse we will blacklist words from being used, like swear words.

I think having a restriction list would be good, and maybe the content team can tell people to change the guild names if they find a way around + a report guild name forum / In game command.

I think you misunderstood me because I am not suggesting a generator or a list of pre-defined names at all... what I'm suggesting is staff should approve of names when someone wishes to create a guild to maintain some standard with Dyescape's lore.

    For example:

Player 1: "Our guild name will be Tavarov"
    Staff: "Ok approved all good"

Player 2: "Our name will be Wynncraft"
Staff: "That does not fit with Dyescape's roleplay element. Please choose a name that..."

(The names are arbitrary and random examples.. I'm not suggesting to disallow other server names or whatever...)

This still allows people to be creative and come up with their own names, also, I know you said the names won't be displayed but people will want to join guilds and have rivalries, and having names that fit together will make it more immersive (who doesn't love some good political drama amiright?)

How would that be implemented? Lets say I create a guild and I need to set a name. Having this name approved could take a few hours (assume people have lives). What so you do in those hours? Can you continue with your guild or do you need to wait? What if its rejected, what if it is rejected several times? I guess I got OP mixed up with Jays response.

Not everything in the world can be automated, some stuff will simply need to be waited on.. however, having to wait to create a guild will make creating a guild a more serious proposition and weed out the less-serious people who want to create a guild off a whim.

I'd be against this simply considering how many players would want to run guilds. It might take a few minutes to a few seconds to handle a single "application," but several tens of them could take hours - and is what I imagine would be the case if any player could make and run a guild.
Some people just don't have that kind of creativity for a whim's notice and would instead be dissuaded from the process for who knows how long before they have a name or join another.

I agree with your points, but again, we don’t know the logistics of how guilds will be implemented. For example, I’ve heard creating a guild will be a donor perk so that would definitely decrease the volume of requests. Also, perhaps having less guilds would be more beneficial so we don’t have hundreds of random guilds running around or big guilds that are in-tact before Dyescape.

    Okay ...

So first of all, we cannot dictate or control the kind of guild name our players wants, and it will be both an issue of freedom of choice and restriction. Same thing happens to every mmorpg games you know of.

Second, it wont be easy to create a guild. I dont think after going through the process of guild creation someone will just pick a funny or weird name. Even if they do, we have no control over it not unless the name chosen was offensive and inappropriate.
Potential guild leaders cant just say "hey i have money or whatever, i can create a guild"
    Code:
Guild leadership takes more than just money.
Third, it'll be a great addition if we will have some sort of Guild Name Generator for those who are having a hard time deciding what to name their guild, but it shouldn't restrict players to choose their own.

Yes we are a mmoRPg server but please understand that not everyone will be OC (on character) once they enter the server.

Already exists. Take a look at this one, it's quite nice for making fantasy names of any kind.

Edit: Found another one which includes a restful API we can easily hook into: see here.
