Accepted Titles

Greetings people of Dyescape, I bring you another suggestion.

Wouldn't it be nice to have honorary titles? Such as Jester, Stableboy, Champion, etc. These things won't be achievable in-game, but perhaps staff can appoint certain players a title based off their actions in game.

Noble deeds and such, if a player rushes to victory at an event, they could be awarded something like Captain or Champion. Depending on their action. Let's say a player discovers a new territory or land, they are named as an explorer.

A lot of MMOs have cosmetic titles that can be earned by completing quests or other notable feats. An additional tag in chat (and perhaps above the player) for something like that would be quite feasible. Earning them would almost certainly be automated though, not given manually, and at least a majority would be obtainable by any player via certain means.
I accidentally named the thread title "Sieges".
Let me know what to set the title to and I'll change it for you :p

This seems like a given thing for an MMO, but here are my two cents (More like a bag of coins)

I don't see the value in staff given ranks unless you're someone who has contributed to the community in a lot of ways. Maybe those who make a lot of memes for the community or those who host tournaments for others could get cool rewards for helping out and doing things for the community!

Who should get titles?

Everyone, everyone should at least have a couple of titles to choose from!

How does someone get a title?

Quests - Certain side- and main quests should give player titles! Completing a quest where you help a farmer with farming could give you the title "Farmhand" and completing the main quest line could give something like "Hero of Eturia"
Achievements - Have you killed a thousand goblins? You're the "Goblin Slayer" (Sorry Dennis, you won't be the only one :kappa: ) or completing a hundred quests you get the title "Quester"
Buying ranks - Want to flex your Duke? Get the "Duke" title in-game so everyone knows how much you love Dyescape!
Participating in events - During Christmas week, you have Christmas quests and if you complete them all you gain "Santa's little helper" or if you join the Alpha you could get something related to it!
First X of the server - Was your guild the first to kill the raid boss? Gain the cool title for it as well as loads of fame!
Professions - Maxed out cooking? You're now the "Master Chef". Did you max out fishing? You gain the title of "Fish King"!
Getting PvP rank - Hit max rank in the PvP Ladder, Congratz "High Warrior" on your achievement!

And thousands of other ways that you might come up with!

Cool now that I have a title, where can I see it?

This should be fairly simple, next to your name above you! Depending on if characters have specific names (not sure if this is already decided) and that they are above your head. " 'Master Chef' Gondor Ransey" would be displayed above the players head!

But what does getting a title give you?

Not much, besides, Fame! Recognition! Awe! If you see someone with a title that indicates that they're rank 12 on the PvP ladder shows you how good they're at PvP or "Goblin Slayer" shows how dedicated they're to killing those nasty green midgets!

It also has a lot of RP value! Are you a paladin and want to RP being in command? "High Paladin on the Light" is the title for you! Or are you a sneaky spy? "Shadow Assasin" is the title for you!

I like the display-above-head idea. However, please also consider staff or donators prefixes, especially if the idea is to also have them all as part of the chat. It shouldn't end up looking too clustered.

"Goblin Slayer" shows how dedicated they're to killing those nasty green midgets!

Now we're talking! Kill 10,000 Goblins for Goblin Slayer title, sounds like a fine challenge to me!

I would personally keep titles as display-above-head only, and this is how it's done in pretty much in all if not in every MMO that has titles next to your name. Staff and Donor prefixes should be kept in your chat tag instead. If you would like to incorporate the staff/donor recognition into the above-head tag, maybe coloring the name and or title with that ranks corresponding color would be a nice addition but might make reading certain colors hard.

I like the idea of titles.

So, I'll note this idea down so we can investigate it more. However, titles would only be shown in peaceful places. E.g. Cities, guild regions etc. This is to prevent clutter during PvE or PvP.

With that in mind... Approved!
